Frequently Asked Questions

The Q&A is divided into sections based on the topic. If you have further questions, please contact the studio.

Q: “Do we get all the images that you took?”
A: No. I’ll shoot a series of images during a specific moment of your Bar/Bat Mitzvah. I may shoot 8 frames of each family member being liften in the air during the Horah but if an expression isn’t quite flattering or your eyes are closed, those images are set aside.  I’ll take multiples of your family but keep only the best ones. I select only the finest images with the best expression for your image DVD.
Q: “How many images to we get on DVD?”
A: You’ll get 400-600 edited images on DVD.
Q: “Does your studio provide videography services?”
A: Yes, I do offer a Photofusions Presentation which is a slide show with short video clips. If you are looking for a  traditional video I  can recommend top videographers that offer a variety of packages and pricing.  These are professionals that I work with on a regular basis.
Q: “Who will be photographing our event?”
A: I  (Steve Belner) will be personally photographing your Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
Q: “What happens if your sick or cannot photograph our event?”
A: I have been photographing events for over 30 years and have never missed one.   My reputation is very important to me and It’s going to take a lot for me to not show at your Bar/Bat Mitzvah.  That being said, In the event that I cannot make your event, I will send a qualified  photographer or you have the option to exit the agreement and pick a totally different photography studio and I’ll refund any money collected.
Q: “What  is the difference between web quality and high resolution files?”
A: Web quality files are perfect for emailing, placing on a blog or Facebook.  They are not intended for printing.  High resolution files are for making enlargements.

Q: “What is your photography style?”
A: My  Bar/Bat Mitzvah photography style is  a combination of photojournalism, fine-art and traditional Mitzvah photography. To see examples and a detailed explanation, please visit PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE.
Q: “Can I see an album from one entire Bar/Bat Mitzvah?”
A: Absolutely  I pride myself on the consistency of my work. I understand all photographers put up their best shots from each Bar/Bat Mitzvah on their websites so it’s hard to determine how well he or she will perform. That is why I encourage all of my potential clients to view entire finished Bar/Bat Mitzvah albums.
Q: “My venue is really dark. How do you handle these situations and can I see samples?”
A: I have photographed Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s in extremely dark temples and reception halls.  If the situation arises,  I will set up additional flash lighting to ensure I get bright crisp pictures. Some temples  do not allow flash photography, and for that reason, I use camera’s and lenses with outstanding low-light performance.

Q: “Do you touch up all the images on our image DVD?”
A: Yes I do. Every image I deliver is post produced with my unique style of basic post production. This involves color correction, exposure adjustments,  black and white processing, clarity adjustments, tone-mapping, HDR processing, stylized enhancements and other corrections.
Q: “Is all retouching included in your packages?”
A: No. Advanced post production is not included, examples would be, removing entire objects from the scene, changing the size and shape of body parts or other objects in the scene, adding objects to a scene, there is a hourly charge for the custom post production, as the time required ranges depending on the complexity of the project. Please contact me for a quote for custom post production.
Q: “Do you shoot in JPEG, or  RAW?”
A: I shoot in  Raw mode, this allows for post production without any quality lose.

Q: “Do you take table shots?”
A: I  do not take table shots  unless it is requested.  Depending on the amount of guest I sometimes will suggest adding a second photographer to the package.
Q: “How long does a family photo session take at the reception hall?”
A: I suggest meeting 1-1/2 hours before the party begins to take portraits.  This would include extended family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.

Q: “When should be take the temple photos?”
A: It’s alway better to schedule the temple session the week prior to the Mitzvah.  There is a more relaxed atmosphere, we get to interact with each other, this is the best option.  I understand that sometimes this is impossible and in those cases we meet at the temple 1-1/2 hours prior to services.
Q: “Can we do a family portrait of our house?”
A: Yes,  this  can be instead of the temple session or added as an additional service to your package.
Q: “Can we schedule a family portrait  session on the beach?”
A:  Yes, I will set up several times during the year when I photograph families and couples at the Jersey Shore.

Q: “What is the delivery schedule?
A: Your online gallery of images will be posted within 2 weeks from your Bar/Bat Mitzvah day.  Your albums will be completed within 12 weeks, once you place your order.  (this includes 1 week for you to make layout changes)
Q: “What album companies do you offer?”
A: There are many many album companies.  I have extensively researched the market and have chosen my favorites.  My criteria was quality first, uniqueness, turnaround time, options and price.  (Graphi-Studio, Leather Craftsmen, La-Vie, Accucolor, H&H).  If you prefer another album maker, I would be glad to accommodate your request.
Q: “How many pages and images do we get in our Bar/Bat Mitzvah album?”
A: I offer different options from 40-125 images and from 20-50 pages.
Q: “Can I add more pages and images to my album?”
A: The basic albums have a set amount of pages but the upgraded albums can accommodate as many images and pages as you would like.
Q: “How does the album ordering process work?”
A: You will be able to submit your album order online.  Once I get the images that you have selected, I will produce an album layout.  You can give as much input as you would like, the more the better.  My goal is to make a layout that fits your personal style.  When the  draft is completed it will be posted online where you can view it and make comments.  The adjustments to the layout will be made and you will get a chance to view the revised layout.  When everything is just perfect the album will me produced.

Q: “What size can we print our photo’s up to with a high resolution image DVD?”
A: In most cases, you can print your photo’s up to 16×20 without any quality loss.
Q: “What rights do I have to the digital prints?”
A: You have the right to reprint images whenever you want, wherever you want. However you may not sell your images for a profit or publish your images without the written consent of Photovisions.
Q: “Do you provide the unedited RAW files ?”
A: I do not provide RAW (unprocessed) files. I believe in delivering a finished product. In fact, I’m often shooting with the end (post-produced) product in mind. However, if you absolutely want your RAW images, I will provide them to you along with the post-produced JPG’s for an additional fee of $1,000.

Q: “Do you backup our images? How can we ensure that our images won’t be lost?”
A: I have never lost an image from an event due to the following backup workflow:
During the shoot, I back up on an External Hard Drive so by the end of the wedding I have the images on a CF card and a hard drive. Once I get back to the studio usually that night I upload the images from the External Hard Drive to my computer’s hard drive.  Then I backup that hard drive to another hard drive.  After the files have been processed I’ll make a copy on both hard drives and burn a DVD.  The files are then uploaded to an off site location, just in case. It’s not fun but it works.
Q: “Do you have liability insurance?”
A:Yes. Many venues require the photographer to have Liability Insurance.

Q: “We’re really busy and won’t be able to meet. Are there any other options?”
A: Yes, although I think it’s important to meet in person I realize it’s not always possible.  In those rare instances we can talk on the phone or Skype.
Q: “Do you travel to meet clients?”
A: Due to the limitations of my schedule, I do not travel to meet clients.
Q: “How do I set up an appointment to meet you in person and see some of your work?”
A: Please call the studio  at 201-262-0525 or fill out a contact form.

Q: “How do I reserve you for our Bar/Bat Mitzvah Celebration?”
A: All dates are reserved once I receive your signed agreement and deposit.
Q: “Do you except credit cards?”
A: Yes, but only on the initial deposit.
Q: “What happens if there is a big snow storm and the Bar/Bat Mitzvah is cancelled?”
A: You can change the date, as long as I am available. If you decide to reschedule on a date that I am not available you would forfeit any deposits payed. The new date must me within 3 months of the cancelled date.
Q: “Are there travel fees associated with our Bar/Bat Mitzvah?”
A: Locations in the NY, NJ  Tristate Area are included with all packages.  If there is a travel fee I’ll let you know upfront at our first meeting.
